Tour Description:
This tour tells the story of smugglers, wreckers, press gangs and the daring exploits of
privateers and pirates like Sir Frances Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh.
Our tour journey begins in steep cobbled Mermaid Street in the ancient port of Rye in
Sussex with an 18th century tale of murder, ghosts and a gibbet. Then we follow the South Coast of England through Hampshire, The New Forest, Dorset, Devon and finally the storm-battered wild Atlantic coast of Cornwall, staying in mediaeval pubs once frequented by pirates, smugglers and customs men!
Locations include: Rye, Winchelsea, the White Cliffs of Dover, Hastings Old Town, Alfriston, Rottingdean, Belle Tout Lighthouse, Royal Bosham, Dell Quay, Itchenor, Emsworth, Sidlesham, Portchester, Beaulieu, Bucklers Hard (an 18th century shipbuilding village), the New Forest, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Abbotsbury, Charmouth, Lyme Regis, Beer, Sidmouth, Sir Walter Raleigh's birthplace, Dartmouth, 'The Golden Hind' in Brixham, Looe, Polperro, Padstow, Art Deco Burgh Island, Doc Martin's Portwenn (Port Isaac), Port Gaverne, Tintagel, Boscastle and Clovelly.
